The Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI) is the world's leading scientific center for the study of the Earth's polar regions. AARI provides work in high latitudes in the interests of the Russian Federation and commercial companies: it conducts fundamental and applied research of climate, atmospheric processes, near space, the marine environment and ice cover, hydrometeorological and ice support. The scientific infrastructure of the institute includes ten stations in Antarctica and three stations in the Arctic, a scientific expedition fleet – the R/V "Akademik Tryoshnikov", R/V "Akademik Fedorov" and ice resistance platform "North Pole", ice towing tank in St. Petersburg, the Russian Scientific Center on the Spitsbergen Archipelago and others.
