Challenges and prospects of the Arctic shelf development will be discussed in St. Petersburg

RAO/CIS Offshore 2021 Forum, the leading event in the field of the Arctic oil and gas resources development, will start its work on September 21 in St. Petersburg. The event is held every two years (since 1993) and for more than twenty-five years of its history it retains the status of the main international platform for the consideration of the key issues of the integrated development of the continental shelf, primarily the seas of the Arctic Ocean, the Far East and the development of the Northern Sea Route.

In 2021 the Forum is held by the Order of the Vice Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak.

RAO/CIS Offshore 2021 Program includes plenary sessions, a number of conference sessions, discussions and seminars with Russian and foreign experts, an exhibition showcasing projects for oil and gas field development in the Russian Arctic and on the continental shelf, equipment and technologies for drilling and development of offshore hydrocarbon deposits and safety during offshore operations etc. The exposition is centered around the United Stand of St. Petersburg enterprises organized by the St. Petersburg Committee for the Arctic Affairs.
The main event of the Forum’s business program is the Conference on the issues of the Arctic offshore development (the session will be held in the Mariinsky Palace). On the second day of the Forum, the plenary session will discuss ways of mutually beneficial cooperation between science and industry in the development of the Russian Arctic and continental shelf. Issues to be discussed at the Forum include international cooperation in the Arctic, creation of hydrocarbon resource base, hydrometeorological support and development of offshore oil and gas fields, creation of the fleet for and formation of port infrastructure in the Northern Sea Route waters, and rescue support for operations in the Arctic region.
Traditionally, the RAO/CIS Offshore will announce the results and award the winners of the International Contest of R&D and Innovative Works for the Development and Exploitation of the Arctic and the Continental Shelf, organized by the Russian Ministry of Energy; participants of the Young Session will solve the case to develop a Concept for the Construction and Development of the Arctic offshore gas field (the task was developed by the Scientific and Educational Center and the Corporate Scientific and Technical Center for the Development of Offshore oil and gas resources of Gazprom VNIIGAZ). For the first time, the program will include a discussion of marine and Arctic medicine.

An off-site technical seminar with a visit to the ice basin at the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute will be organized for the participants of the RAO/CIS Offshore Forum on September 22.
